                    Task 1 :

                                                                          

Theory and practical with Matt McGuchan

YOU WILL BE TASKED TO MAKE 6 MICRO DOCUMENTARIES BASED UPON BILL NICHOLL'S DOCUMENTARY MODES.

  • Analyse and research a range of six documentary types in terms of content, style and audience. Types may include: Expository,Poetic,Observatory, Reflexive,Participatory and Performative.

  • Working independently using your SMART phone or college equipment, research, plan,film and edit a Micro documentary in each of the given styles.

  • Evaluate your documentaries in terms of content, style, technical aptitude and audience.

Characteristics with Reg Thompson 

YOU WILL BE TASKED TO RESEARCH KEY ELEMENTS OF FILM GRAMMAR AND CONDUCT YOUR OWN EXPERIMENTAL APPLICATIONS.

  • Watch, analyse and discuss the characteristics of film grammar before applying your knowledge in a given practical task.

  • Session 1 will be on THE CLOSE UP

  • Session 2 will be devoted to THE CLOSE UP PART 2

  • Session 3 will investigate the ART OF ILLUSION- CREATIVE CAMERA ANGLES

  • Session 4 will be about FORCED PERSPECTIV

  • Session 5 will concentrate on MISE EN SCENE

  • Session 6 will be on CINEMATIC LIGHTING

 

By half term you will have experimented with all of the above, evaluated your work and uploaded it to your WIX website along with all of your research to date.

                 Task 2 :

UNIT 10 ENGAGING WITH AN AUDEINCE IN CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION WITH PAUL HERRON AND REG THOMPSON

                    Task 3 :

YOU WILL BE TASKED TO RESEARCH, PLAN, PRODUCE AND EVALUATE A COMMERCIAL FOR TV AND ONLINE USE OF NO MORE THAN 30" IN LENGTH BASED UPON SOUND RESEARCH INTO YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE.

  • Develop your own individual idea for a commercial of 30" in length applying your knowledge of  appropriate context and characteristics.

  • Use established primary, secondary and experimental research techniques to plan and develop your idea.

  • You will be expected to investigate at least five identified sources of information.

  • You will be expected to reference existing commercials, identify good practice and apply to your own production.

  • You MUST show how your commercial has been created to appeal to an identified target audience.

  • This may include choice and use of non-diegetic sound, Foley, choice of shooting style, shot selection, colour palette, editing transitions and pace, decision making in terms of font and voice-over/presenter/actors.  Mise en scene and overall composition. 

  • Your production must be supported by professional pre-production materials including a storyboard, production schedule, call sheets if required, location recces and supporting research materials.

 

  • Create a PowerPoint presentation to present to the class

                                                   Task 4:

Final Evaluation with Reg Thompson, Matt McGuchan and Paul Herron.

   YOU WILL BE ASKED TO:

  • Evaluate your work for units 9 and 10 and your contribution to individual projects analysing each part of your experience.

  • You must also reflect upon how successfully your commercial plays to its identified target audience and show your understanding of distribution platforms by picking a distribution source and justifying that decision.

Grading criteria  Unit 9  3:2 Unit 10 3;1 3;2
